Examine completed workpieces for defects, such as chipped edges or marred surfaces and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws.
Uses hand tools to grind, sand, clean, or polish objects or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing.
May create layout and outline sequence of operations, applying knowledge of stock allowances for thickness, trigonometry, and physical properties of metal necessary for the fabrication process.
May assist with the setup and operation of assigned fabrication machines (i.e., saws, brakes, shears, punch presses, ironworkers, and roll formers) to cut and shape components to specified dimensions.
Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms or lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions or damage.
